Why are Pedophile attracted to JWs?
by MMae inbadboy raised the above question in another thread.
i was wondering how much jw training and/or fear of god played a role in jw childrens' victimization.
these are my comments:.

I think a number of factors contribute. A big one is even the worst of people can be accepted and welcomed as a JW if they feign devotion to Jehovah and "his organization". For the most part JW's are more concerned with the reputation of "Jehovah's organization" over anything else so keep abuse reports as private as possible. JW children are also very good at internalising anguish and putting on a pretense, most learn at a young age to keep their parents off their back. Too many JW parents are naive about the "spiritual paradise" and consider the congregation safe.

Back sliding
by edmond dantes inthere used to be a nutty expression in the whacktower during the fifties it was the term a backslider .why don't they use it nowadays?

This just reminded me, in the film "Happy Feet" one of the characters said he used to be a "back slider". If you haven't seen it I would suggest it. The JW parallels are astounding considering it's a film about a penguin community. They have elders, back sliders, shunning and everything.

LOL. Sounds like something people said in the 50's, like calling people "Slackers" a la Back to the Future.

As a Witness Did you Feel "Coerced" to be "Used" for " Privileges" ?
by flipper inbeing raised in a fairly prominent witness family was a challenge for me growing up .
my dad was city overseer for 30 years in the same city .
older brother in bethel for 8 years, has been an elder 35 years , an older sister who went to gilead school and regular pioneered for years .

Good thing for me the WBTS are so misogynistic. "Privileges of service" are few for sisters.

Possible threat to UK JW charitable status

What would be the ramifications if JW's lose charitable status (other than the obvious paying tax)? Does this in any way tie in with jeffreywhat's thread a few weeks back about news of changes in congregation structure?

Stuck in the "Truth"
by IMustBreakAway ini notice from comments posted that many here who post (and untold scores who lurk) are still "in".
perhaps their social / family circles are too constricted for freedom of mind, and or, they are too afraid to rock the boat.
or too young to strike out on their own and are dependent on jw parents for support.

Now there's a thought Pickled. The double standards are appalling aren't they?!

Postcard Marketing Knocking to JWs: "Governing Body Approved Interviews"
by cabasilas ini got the large postcard today that apparently is designed to market the movie knocking to jws.
under "knocking opens the door on jehovah's witnesses," it states:.
knocking was broadcast on pbs and written about in newsweek, usa today and newspapers from detroit to dallas.

Sooooo... how does the 'average' JW feel about this 'documentary'? Are the JWs - in general - favorable towards it?
I ask this because... if I recall correctly - they (JWs) seem to have a 'we don't believe anything that the media says' approach to any negative press. But positive press?
Regards,
Jim TX
Remember the documentary "Purple Triangles" about the Nazi persecution? That was made by the media, the society bought the rights and distributed the DVD like one of their own. Does that answer your question?

IMustBreakAway, your last post summed up my dilemma too. Someone recently said to me "is other people's happiness your responsibility?" and that struck home. At the moment it's easier to hurt myself than them though. Ironically it's kind of selfish really because I couldn't live with myself for the hurt it would cause if I left.
